It’s nice to meet you! My name is Arielle - no, not like the mermaid.
I’m a queer 26 year old woman currently living in Charleston, South Carolina. I’m a Taurus sun, Aquarius moon, Cancer rising, originally from the Pacific Northwest. I was born the heir apparent to an international Pentecostal Christian cult run by my Grandfather (yes, really), but clearly I have other ideas.
From an early age I expressed myself through any and all creative outlets I could access: art, music, writing, putting on sock puppet theater shows and building cardboard-box apartment towers for my numerous Webkinz. My young life was an emotional struggle of intuition versus dogma, trying to understand how my “God-given gifts” for creativity and organization could possibly apply to the pulpit.
In 2018 I graduated High School and applied to SCAD for the 2-D Animation Bachelor’s program. I had an honor roll GPA, a decent portfolio and, most importantly, an incredible amount of faith in God’s ability to get me a full ride. I definitely wasn’t going to be able to swing the $50k yearly tuition myself. I got accepted, and a sizeable collection of scholarships to help! My scholarships totaled $22,000 for each year… but it wasn’t enough for a lower-middle-class girl with no college fund to work with. I decided to say “no” to my dream rather than accumulate an insurmountable level of debt. My confidence in my identity as an artist was shattered… and so was my faith in my “God.”
Today I make continue to make art in many forms. I speak my truth as a way to rebel against the United States Empire and fight Christian Nationalism. I am a spiritual alchemist practicing ancestral magick where I honor and work with my matriarchial ancestors. I am here to live the life they never could.
If my life has taught me anything, it’s that people and beliefs can change, but the only universal truth I’ve found is love. I believe everyone has innate gifts that are invaluable to society (even if capitalism may not see it). I am passionate about community organization, animated movies, and deconstructing my oppressive religious upbringing. From conservative Christian to radical leftist, my journey has been tumultuous and turbulent — but I wouldn’t be the person I am without it!
My favorite hobbies and interests include catering to every whim and wish of my rabbit Tofu, reading, writing (fiction and poetry), tarot and astrology, making niche playlists, and repeatedly consuming Lord of the Rings, the Muppets, Game of Thrones, the Pitt, and more. I’m vehemently anti-Zionist and pro-Palestine. As a bisexual woman, exercising my rights and advocating for those who don’t have them is a foundational pillar of my ethos. If you’re pro-Trump, pro-ICE, or pro-birth … what are you still doing here? Shoo, go on, git! Did I mention that I love cyberbullying racists?
Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.
